Hot stones massage is a type of massage that uses hot stones as tools to deliver massage.
The stones are placed on different parts of the body, as well as used by the massage therapist to apply the massage. The warmth from the stones enables the massage to feel very relaxing and pleasant by relaxing the muscles so a lighter pressure can be used. The warmth from the stones also helps to reduce pain, stiffness and aches.

Hot stone massage can be a useful treatment option when treating neck and back conditions, especially when combined with Chiropractic treatment. The hot stones massage helps to relieve tension in the muscles surrounding the spine which in turn allows the Chiropractic adjustments to be more effective as the muscles surrounding the spine do not “pull” the spine back out of alignment.
The massage will take place in a warm, comfortable room with relaxing music playing in the background to provide a relaxing atmosphere which will help to reduce stress/ tension. At the beginning of the session the massage therapist will probably ask you about your overall health; please answer as accurately as possible as this is important when they are determining how to proceed with the treatment/ session. If you have any specific areas of concern, these should be raised to your therapist before the massage has started.
During the massage only the area of the body that is being worked on will be exposed. Generally, you will start the massage lying on your front on the couch but during the session you may be asked to change positions to access different areas of the body. Light pressure is used during the massage although if you feel the pressure is not right then let your therapist know so they can adjust their pressure accordingly.
After the massage, it is advisable to drink plenty of water to aid in the removal of toxins and to rehydrate your body. It is also advisable to avoid too much strenuous work/ activity after the massage to fully allow your body and muscles to relax.
Typically, a hot stones massage session will last for either 60 or 90 minutes depending on what you require.
